Senator Runestad
Condemns
Democrats' Lame
Duck Agenda

LANSING, MI — Sen. Jim Runestad is raising concerns about a series of controversial policies being pushed by Michigan Democrats in the final weeks of the legislative session.
“I proposed a measure to prevent exactly this type of legislative overreach,” said Runestad, R- White Lake. “It’s unacceptable when one party exploits its control to push a last-minute, radical agenda. This garbage must end.”
Runestad emphasized his long-standing commitment to legislative accountability, noting his 2021 introduction of Senate Joint Resolution E
which was introduced when Republicans controlled both legislative chambers. The resolution would have required a three-fourths majority vote in both chambers for any bill to become law after a general election.
“Michigan voters demanded accountability and change, not radical policies that disregard the will of the people,” Runestad said. “This lame duck agenda undermines the values of our state and ignores the voices of Michigan citizens who made their stance clear on Nov. 5 — enough is enough.”
Runestad has pledged to vote against the following legislative proposals, citing their potential to harm Michigan families and communities:

-
House Bills 4410–4412 and Senate Bills 265–267 would allow illegal immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses.
-
HBs 4156 and 4440 seek to eliminate the Electoral College, replacing it with a national popular vote system for presidential elections.
-
HBs 4556–4560 propose early release for certain criminal offenders.
-
HBs 5300–5302 would permit individuals to choose a nonbinary gender option on driver’s licenses.
-
HBs 6034–6035 would restrict public objections to library content based on gender identity or sexual orientation themes.
-
HB 6068 would change sex education curriculum, including adding discussions on gender identity and sexual orientation.
-
HBs 6108–6111 would permit the state to override local zoning laws to allow gravel mines anywhere in Michigan.
-
SBs 875–877 would introduce vaccine requirements for those entering the 12th grade.
